About Yareliza
My name is Yarelis Cristina Peña Almonte.
My grandmother Mercedes was the only one who called me Yareliza.
Today I carry that name on stage, in her honor.
She gave me my first turquoise notebook when I was eleven, with one rule: "the words come first, mija. the voice comes after." She was right. I filled nine notebooks before I ever sang a single note.
When she passed in 2025, I decided to sing.
I was born in Santiago and raised in Tamboril. I left the Dominican Republic at three years old and grew up in Washington Heights, between two countries, two languages.
Today I make alternative rap and R&B in spanglish.
It's not radio american/latin pop.
It's who I am.
This album lived quietly in my notebooks.
Now I'm turning it into my debut album.
The one she'll never hear, but the one she made possible.

Me llamo Yarelis Cristina Peña Almonte.
Mi abuela Mercedes fue la única que me llamaba Yareliza.
Hoy llevo ese nombre en el escenario, en su honor.
Me regaló mi primera libreta turquesa cuando tenía once años, con una sola regla: "las palabras primero, mija. la voz viene después." Tenía razón. Llené nueve libretas antes de cantar una sola nota.
Cuando ella se fue en 2025, decidí cantar.
Nací en Santiago y me crié en Tamboril. Salí de la República Dominicana a los tres años y crecí en Washington Heights, entre dos países, dos idiomas.
Hoy hago rap alternativo y R&B en spanglish.
No es pop americano ni latino de radio.
Es quien soy.
Este álbum vivió en silencio en mis libretas.
Ahora lo estoy convirtiendo en mi álbum debut.
